Below are questions that my LA teacher gave us to answer about our book A Wrinkle in Time.
1. What thoughts do you have about Meg’s personality as you read these chapters?
In these chapters I think that Meg’s personality changes page to page. One day she could be mad at the world and the other scared, then happy. I think that she makes everything hard for herself with her frustrated attitude.
2. Why is Meg Murry unhappy at school?
I think that Meg is unhappy at school because she looks at herself as a “misfit”. If Meg could stop thinking as herself as different she could maybe come out of her shell and make friends as well as get better grades.
3. How and why does Calvin fit in with the Murry family?
Calvin fits in with the Murry family because he feels loved and the Murry’s are being kind to him. Calvin is also a nice person, and gives Meg advice as well as telling her the truth about what is happening.
4. Where and why do Calvin, Charles Wallace, and Meg go with Mrs.Whatsit, Mrs Who, and Mrs.Which?.
The children go with the 3 ladies because they know where their father is. They then go to planets other then Earth and introduce Meg, Calvin, and Charles Wallace to the outside world and the thing that Mr. Murry is fighting, this though leads to troubles that they don’t exept most times.
5. In your opinion, why do the three children accept the three Mrs. W’s rather then fear them?
I think that the children accept the three Mrs. W’s because they seem to know a lot about everything including their parent’s experiments. There voice also helps too. They do not get angry at the children (or at least not show it) and the three Mrs. W’s are somewhat calm, nice and wise.
6. In what ways does Meg seem like any other young person? In what ways are her feelings similar to yours?
Meg is like any other young person because she still does not know everything, and that she is in some cases “immature,” and also stubborn. But her feelings are not similar to mine, I am usually always spunky and positive while she is mostly always gloomy, and angry.
7. Pretend you are a guidance counselor at Meg’s school. Write a letter to Mrs. Murry about Meg, explaining that Meg could do better school work. Explain this how you see it, and suggest possible solutions.
Dear. Mrs. Murry,
Over the recent weeks and months I have kept a steady eye on your one of a kind child, Meg, but I have seen her grades going down, and her attitude going along with it. Her teacher and I have discussed this matter many a times and have kept it on the down low. We now have to have conferences pretty much everyday about her, so we have to decided to bring this topic up to you; Meg needs to do better classwork or else holding her back a grade is in thought.I have thought of some ways to possibly resolve this, but it needs your help.
Consider Meg having to get a “prize” to reach for at the end of the quarter if she gets all A’s and B’s, this might have her working harder to reach this “prize.” You could also take her privileges away for getting low marks or for bad attitude towards school. Meg could always try and make some new friends too, this might have her thinking about school a little bit more instead of her thinking about her lack of friends. Summer school is also option to think about too. Please suggest these these solutions as they are to help Meg. Write back if you have any questions concerning this topic stated.
All the best to you, the children and Mr. Murry,
Meg’s guidance counselor,
Mrs. Parkly
