Animals that I have ridden

March 3rd, 2008

Today in class, we were talking about our blogs, and the facts about commenting, and then came into conversations about animals that we have ridden. It was really random and funny, but I want to hear about some different anmials that you have rode, that are different or the same as the one’s I have ridden. Here are I have sat upon:

1. Dolphins

2. Horses

3. Camels

4. A Donkey

5. And also Elephant ( Maybe a Elephant, but I cannot remember. )

A Wrinkle In Time Themes

March 1st, 2008

.In class, we just finished our book; A Wrinkle In Time. Our teacher gave us then an activity sheet on the themes of the Book. We were then told to pick our favorite theme and write about it. Importance of making Choices I think one of the most important themes is The Importance Of Making Choices. I think this because it is important to make choices. You need to always need to make good choices and follow your heart, instead of making bad ones. If you do make a bad choice though, it could possibly lead to terrible things happening. If you do make a good choice, you would be happy with yourself and the people around you would be happy and content too. Your whole life revolves around making choices, and a good life comes when good choices are made. 2. Below are my overall thoughts of our book, A Wrinkle In Time. Overall I really liked the book. It is one of my favorites actually. A Wrinkle In Time, gave questions to ask, suspense, and sadness. You never knew what was going to happen next and that was the fun part; trying to de-code the questions! Another thing about The book A Wrinkle In Time, is that the author gave you “Statements,” that you usually never even think to think about, like; “What is light,” ” The 5th dimension,” and “What is dark.” I think that Madeleine L’Engle wrote the book in a great way too. She added Fantasy that was not too, “Over the Top,” and she also had real life things that you could “believe,” in a way. When I got the book looked at the cover, read the summary in the back and the first couple of pages, I thought that the book was going to be one of those corny books with way too much unbelievable things. But it definatly was not (wasn’t). I loved the A Wrinkle In Time and would recommend it to anyone who likes fantasy and Science Fiction, I would also read it again in a heartbeat.

Proverbs

March 1st, 2008

This week, instead of writing about one of the facts of Islam, I am writing about one of the many proverbs that Muslims use. I am writing an opinion on what it means. So this is is the Proverb… “If you see a lion’s teeth, don’t mistake it for a smile.  I think that this proverb means that if you meet or know someone that is nice and kind and more, they could possibly have another side to them. Everyone in the world have more then one side to them, Nice and Mean are two sides out of many. A person, animal, or creature could be nice at first or then mean,  or even ( Possibly in a Bully’s case ) they could be really mean or just mean and then have a sweet, kind, and nice personality under all of that “meanness.” So always think about this when you meet a new person. A Happy Face  Then…     A Mad Face

This Week In Class

February 29th, 2008

Today In Class… In my classes this week we talked about many things. In Science we started talking about Protists and Cow hearts, in Math, we talked about Proportions and how you could measure the height of the school using and mirror, yourself, and a tape measure. This week in Language Arts, we talked more about our blogs and our book, A Wrinkle In Time. In Social Studies we continued our cool new unit on Islam talking about multiple things on that topic, we also talked about our Islam simulation that we are doing and our projects, banners and more. This week in Class I learned so many things throughout my 8 classes, from Science to P.E, we learned something new everyday. In Math I learned how to measure the height of the school without going to the top of the school and measuring down. In Language Arts I learned that our Blogs can have RSS feeds and that you can put music onto them. And last, but not least, “Did you know that Candy,m, Coffee, Magazines, Zero, and Average are some English words that originated  from Arabic?” This is one of the many new facts I learned in Social Studies this week during our Simulation and Islam unit. 3. This week in Class, I was daydreaming about…everything! I could go on and on about this specific topic, so I will only put one thing from each day. Sunday I daydreamed about the great weekend I just had. Monday’s thoughts were about Track practice that afternoon, Tuesday, I daydreamed about what I would do after school, and my Horseback Riding Lesson since it was a half day that day. Wednesday I thought about the Summer this year and where I would go and what I would see. And Thursday, I daydreamed about the weekend coming up and going to the Camel Races and the beach maybe. 4. In school this week I said, and spoke about lots of things. I asked questions, and responded to peoples questions too. Although I do talk a lot, this week I talked a bit more this week.

My Interesting Fact About Muslims

February 26th, 2008

My LA, and SS teacher; Mr. R, wants us to write more about our topics, or alot about a Fact or a Statement. So my fact is here.                                                      There are 11.5 million Muslims in the U.S.     I have lived in the U.S for most of my life and had never known that there were 11.5 million Muslims living there! If you would have told me that while I lived there, I would of probably said “Wow,” and of just walked away. But now since I am in a country with many Muslims, it is different. Here Muslims typically wear a national dress with an Abiya or a Thobe but in the United States I had never of heard or seen people wearing their National Dress, ( But the sad thing is if an American or someone else would of seen a person with their National Dress on, they would of probably stared at the person and maybe even of made a face. ) living here though, I see people wearing them all the time. Also in the States we don’t have Mosques or souqs everywhere like here. In fact, if someone had of even known if there was a Muslim in theor class, school, or neighbor the first thing that would of went in their mind would of been, “They must be a terrorist,” but that is absolutly not true at all. I have met so many nice and kind people that are Muslims, and they are just like you and me.        So overall I think the Muslims that are the United States are probably just “underover” or not telling others that they are Muslims, but I could be wrong. I am just shocked that there are so many in the U.S.

My Islam’s New 5 facts

February 25th, 2008

Here below are some of today’s facts. I have picked 5 of them that are to new me. Maybe these are new to you too!

1. Arabs introduced the guitar to the West
* I have noticed that there are many different types of guitars. Did Arabs “invent,” or introduce those to the West?

2. An Arab shopping mall is called a Bazaar.
* I think a Bazaar is also called a Souq.

3. Omayad dynasty lasted from 651-750.

4. In every chapter the first ( 1st ) sentence in the Qur’an is; ” In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.”
* I think that is very interesting. I wonder if any other religion starts each sentence of each chapter with the same sentence?

5. A Gin can be good or evil.

6. Sufism, is a branch of Islam.

Today in Class.

February 24th, 2008

Every week we are now to write about multiple topics in this week’s classes. It can be about any class or any day. This one below though is about last Thursday’s class.

1. In class we talked about the purposes of writing ( Which is something I did not ( didn’t) know,) and information about our blogs on how to use them.

2. In class today, I learned that writing can have multiple aspects, including; Communication, Expression, Reflection, and Thinking. I also learned about this, “This Week In Class,” writing we are doing. I think that it will be very cool to look back at the end of the year and see what we did every week.

3. I daydreamed about track practice that afternoon thinking weather I should try the high jump, and if I should put down the relay as what I should do. I also daydreamed about the weekend; Sleep-ins, and lazy days, Ahhhhh, my favorite.

4. I wanted to ask in class my question about our reading book; A Wrinkle in Time. I wanted to ask why was there no doors in Camazotz? I think it is very strange to have no doors, but maybe my teacher or classmates would of known the anwser to my question. We just didn’t have enough in our block for me to ask. Maybe another time or next class.

Questions on the A Wrinkle In Time: chapters 1-4

February 19th, 2008

Below are questions that my LA teacher gave us to answer about our book A Wrinkle in Time.

1. What thoughts do you have about Meg’s personality as you read these chapters?
In these chapters I think that Meg’s personality changes page to page. One day she could be mad at the world and the other scared, then happy. I think that she makes everything hard for herself with her frustrated attitude.

2. Why is Meg Murry unhappy at school?
I think that Meg is unhappy at school because she looks at herself as a “misfit”. If Meg could stop thinking as herself as different she could maybe come out of her shell and make friends as well as get better grades.

3. How and why does Calvin fit in with the Murry family?
Calvin fits in with the Murry family because he feels loved and the Murry’s are being kind to him. Calvin is also a nice person, and gives Meg advice as well as telling her the truth about what is happening.

4. Where and why do Calvin, Charles Wallace, and Meg go with Mrs.Whatsit, Mrs Who, and Mrs.Which?.

The children go with the 3 ladies because they know where their father is. They then go to planets other then Earth and introduce Meg, Calvin, and Charles Wallace to the outside world and the thing that Mr. Murry is fighting, this though leads to troubles that they don’t exept most times.

5. In your opinion, why do the three children accept the three Mrs. W’s rather then fear them?

I think that the children accept the three Mrs. W’s because they seem to know a lot about everything including their parent’s experiments. There voice also helps too. They do not get angry at the children (or at least not show it) and the three Mrs. W’s are somewhat calm, nice and wise.

6. In what ways does Meg seem like any other young person? In what ways are her feelings similar to yours?
Meg is like any other young person because she still does not know everything, and that she is in some cases “immature,” and also stubborn. But her feelings are not similar to mine, I am usually always spunky and positive while she is mostly always gloomy, and angry.

7. Pretend you are a guidance counselor at Meg’s school. Write a letter to Mrs. Murry about Meg, explaining that Meg could do better school work. Explain this how you see it, and suggest possible solutions.

Dear. Mrs. Murry,

Over the recent weeks and months I have kept a steady eye on your one of a kind child, Meg, but I have seen her grades going down, and her attitude going along with it. Her teacher and I have discussed this matter many a times and have kept it on the down low. We now have to have conferences pretty much everyday about her, so we have to decided to bring this topic up to you; Meg needs to do better classwork or else holding her back a grade is in thought.I have thought of some ways to possibly resolve this, but it needs your help.

Consider Meg having to get a “prize” to reach for at the end of the quarter if she gets all A’s and B’s, this might have her working harder to reach this “prize.” You could also take her privileges away for getting low marks or for bad attitude towards school. Meg could always try and make some new friends too, this might have her thinking about school a little bit more instead of her thinking about her lack of friends. Summer school is also option to think about too. Please suggest these these solutions as they are to help Meg. Write back if you have any questions concerning this topic stated.

All the best to you, the children and Mr. Murry,

Meg’s guidance counselor,
Mrs. Parkly

Islam Questions, and our statements

February 18th, 2008

We are now going into a unit in school about Islam. Below are questions we were asked by our teacher.

1. What do you think about this upcoming unit?

This upcoming unit I think will give me some very useful information that I don’t know, and as well as something to have some fun with. I like the fact that we are doing “Simulations”, or pretending, on this unit because it will give us a chance to “be” Islamic. So overall I am very exited about Islam.

2. My questions I have:

  • What are the general customs of Muslims and how do their daily lives “go”?
  • What makes Women and Men different from one another in this culture?
  • What is the significance of their national dresses for both Men, and Women?
  • How did this religion come about( revolve ) for Islam?
